From the Editors
We’re delighted to present the first edition of IKI Conecta – IKI’s magazine on climate action in Latin America. In this profoundly significant year for the environmental agenda, we have created this publication as a source of information and connection between IKI projects in the priority countries of the Americas – Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
Our aim is to tell, in an integrated and inspiring way, how IKI projects are helping to address climate change and biodiversity loss, aligned with the initiative’s different funding areas. This approach will be showcased in four special editions. In this debut issue, we feature an article on how our initiatives are contributing to the achievement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTSs) in these countries, as well as exploring new financing opportunities such as IKI Large Grants.
We also highlight the richness and diversity of the IKI network: in the article on the 8th IKI Brazil Meeting, held at the end of July in Brasília, we share insights into the work of different partners, showing that climate finance is about more than just resources — it’s also about alliances.
With COP30 taking place for the first time in Brazil, in Belém do Pará, from 10 to 21 November, IKI Conecta has been launched with a special focus on this historic moment. In this and upcoming issues, we will share what our projects are bringing to this global gathering. So don’t hesitate to send in your contributions – we want to know what you are doing and to share it. This platform is yours too!
IKI Conecta is published by the Climate Policy Programme (PoMuC), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, which serves as IKI’s interface project in Brazil.
Happy reading — and see you in the next edition!
